I'm Out

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. I’ve been playing poker off and on for the past couple of months, but nothing interesting to write about. So, what’s so important that it’s prompted me to write on my blog again?

I’m out for the December gathering. Again.

Last year, I was able to blame it on lack of a job and, therefore, lack of the financial means to engage in a weekend of Vegas debauchery. This year, it’s the opposite – it’s my job that’s preventing me from going. Long story short – my company is in the midst of rolling out a new HR system to our entire company. I’m one of only two people who really knows how to work the system, and the other person, our developer, is quitting next week. The Thursday and Friday of the gathering weekend are crucial to making sure the system works, and I can’t be absent.

I’d already booked my tickets and my hotel. There isn’t a flight with Southwest that leaves Friday that I can make, and I’m not in a position to purchase another ticket, one-way on Friday, to force my way there. I just don’t see it happening.

So, for the two of you that were expecting to see me there, we’ll have to find another time. For everyone else there that doesn’t really know me, you won’t notice my absence anyways.

Back to my regularly scheduled lack of posting…..

Are they gonna pay for your ticket or at least the change fee? That's pretty ridiculous... you should at least mention it to your boss that you bought these tickets because you already booked a vacation. They might at least pay for you to change those tickets to ones for Friday night.
